Transformerless 5 Volt Power Supply Circuit Diagram

Description An increasing number of appliances draw a very small current from the power supply. If you need to design a mains powered device, you could generally choose between a linear and a switch-mode power supply. However, what if the appliance’s total power consumption is very small? Transformer-based power supplies are bulky, while the switchers are generally made to provide greater current output, with a significant increase in complexity, problems involving PCB layout and, inherently, reduced reliability.  Is it possible to create a simple, minimum part-count mains (230 VAC primary) power supply, without transformers or coils, capable of delivering about 100 mA at, say, 5 V A general approach could be to employ a highly inefficient stabilizer that would rectify AC and, utilizing a zener diode to provide a 5.1 V output, dissipate all the excess from 5.1 V to (230×v2) volts in a resistor. Even if the load would require only about 10 mA, the loss would be approximately 3 watts...

LED Volt Meter

Here is a Simple LED Volt meter to Monitor the charge level in Lead Acid Battery or Tubular battery. The terminal voltage of the battery is indicated through a four level LED indicators. The nominal terminal voltage of a Lead Acid battery is 13.8 volts and that of a Tubular battery is 14.8 volts when fully charged. The LED voltmeter uses four Zener diodes to light the LEDs at the precise breakdown voltage of the Zener diodes. Usually the Zener diode requires 1.6 volts in excess than its prescribed value to reach the breakdown threshold level. When the battery holds 13.6 volts or more, all the Zener breakdown and all LEDs light up. When the battery is discharged below 10.6 volts, all the LEDs remain dark. So depending on the terminal voltage of the battery, LEDs light up one by one or turns off. LED Volt Meter Circuit Circuit diagram: LED Volt Meter Circuit Diagram Author: D. 9 Volt 2 Ampere DC Power Supply Circuit Diagram

There is little to be said about this circuit. All the work is done by the regulator . The 7809 can deliver up to 2 amps continuous output whilst maintaining a low noise and very well regulated supply. The circuit will work without the extra components, but for reverse polarity protection a 1N5400 diode (D1) is provided at the input, extra smoothing being provided by C1. The output stage includes C2 for extra filtering, if powering a logic circuit than a 100nF (C3) capacitor is also desirable to remove any high frequency switching noise. Circuit diagram: Parts: C1 = 100uF-25V electrolytic capacitor, at least 25V voltage rating C2 = 10uF-25V electrolytic capacitor, at least 6-16V voltage rating C3 = 100nF-63V ceramic or polyester capacitor IC = 7809 Positive Voltage Regulator IC D1 = 1N5400 Diode

5 Volt Switching Regulator Power Supply

The switching regulator power supply used LM2575-5.0 on this schematic. You can make the stable voltage by using the 3 terminal regulator like LM317. However, because the output electric current and the inputted electric current are the same approximately, the difference between the input electric power (The input voltage x The input electric current) and the output power (The output voltage x The output current) is consumed as the heat with the regulator. Because it is, the efficiency isnt good. Data sheet for LM2575 SIMPLE SWITCHER 1A Step-Down Voltage Regulator http://www.national.com/pf/LM/LM2575.htm

12 Volt 30 Amp PSU Circuit Diagram

Using a single 7812 IC voltage regulator and multiple outboard pass transistors, this power supply can deliver output load currents of up to 30 amps. The design is shown below: Simple 12 Volt 30 Amp PSU Circuit Diagram Notes: The input transformer is likely to be the most expensive part of the entire project. As an alternative, a couple of 12 Volt car batteries could be used. The input voltage to the regulator must be at least several volts higher than the output voltage (12V) so that the regulator can maintain its output. If a transformer is used, then the rectifier diodes must be capable of passing a very high peak forward current, typically 100amps or more. The 7812 IC will only pass 1 amp or less of the output current, the remainder being supplied by the outboard pass transistors. As the circuit is designed to handle loads of up to 30 amps, then six TIP2955 are wired in parallel to meet this demand.  The dissipation in each power transistor is one sixth of the total load, but a...

30V Volt Meter with PIC16F676

This is a simple 30V volt meter using PIC16F676 micro controller with 10-bit ADC (analog to digital converter) and three 7 segment LED displays. You can use this circuit to measure up to 30V DC. The possible applications are on bench power supply or as a digital panel meter in various systems. PIC16F676 is the heart and brain of this circuit. The internal adc of the mcu with a resistor network voltage divider is used to measure the input voltage. Then 3 digits of comm anode 7 segment display is used to display final converted voltage. As you can see in the schematic the displays are multiplexed with each other. It means we switch on one display and put the corresponding digit on this while other two displays are off this cycle goes for each of the displays.

Simple 10 Amp 13 8 Volt Power Supply Circuit Diagram

Simple 10 Amp 13.8 Volt Power Supply Circuit Diagram. Sometimes amateurs like to home-brew their power supplies instead of purchasing one off the shelf at any of the major ham radio retail dealers. The advantage to rolling your own power supply is that it teaches us how they work and makes it easier to troubleshoot and repair other power supply units in the shack. It should be noted that there is no real cost advantage to building your own power supply unless you can get a large power transformer and heat sink for a super low price.  Of course rolling our own gives us the ability to customize the circuit and make it even more reliable than commercial units. The circuit in Figure 1 will give us 10 amps (12 amps surge) with performance that equals or exceeds any commercial unit. The circuit even has a current limiting feature which is a more reliable system than most commercial units have. Just like other commercial units, this circuit uses the LM723 IC which gives us excellent volta...

How to build Automatic 12 Volt Lamp Fader

The circuit employs two strings of series connected lamps. One string is complimentary to the other, this means that when one string fades the other string gains luminescence. Two power transistors 2N3053 are connected in complimentary mode as shown in circuit 1. The collector of the first transistor is connected to base of the second one through a 2.2K resistor. Different type of light source can be used by calculating the line current and bias voltages. Christmas tree bulb is a good option, as this bulb takes 200mA at 4V DC. Three numbers in series thus do not require any current limiting resistance when applied voltage is 12V DC , as shown in the circuit. 2N3053 can smartly handle up to 500mA of current and hence using the same transistor three strings of LEDs can be connected in parallel with a current limiting resistance of 220ohm, as shown in circuit 2. Four LEDs will be connected in a string, each LED chain will draw around 20mA of current. Hence, in practice, using th...

12 Volt Battery Guardian Circuit Diagram

Don't get caught with a flat battery; this easy-to-build circuit can cut off the power to a 12V fridge or car stereo system if the battery voltages drops below critical level. Electric fridges in vans and 4WDs are a great idea but if you are not careful, they can severely discharge the battery and leave you stranded. Maybe the battery will end up with severe damage as well. The same problem applies if you have a big stereo system and you like to play it without the motor running. Main features: Cuts power to load (eg, fridge) when battery voltage drops below a preset level. 10A rating. Low power drain. Chirping sound during cut-out. Flashing LED indication during cut-out. Automatically reconnects power when battery recharged. Operation on 12V is fine when the motor is running and battery charge is maintained but if the fridge is allowed to run for too long when the motor is stopped, it can flatten the battery in a relatively short time. This is where the Battery Guardian comes into...
